It’s the first Monday of May….can you believe it? May is already here…crazy….
Recently I did the Ragnar Relay in Zion (Utah) and wanted to share a product that became my saving grace during the race (as well as some of my teammates).
I have used Knuckle Lights before at other relays, borrowing from my teammates. They are convenient, easy to wear and comfortable. I have to say they are way brighter than headlamps, or at least the 3 different ones I own.
Knuckle Lights was nice enough to give me a free pair to try on my early morning runs. More importantly, I wanted them for the race in Zion.
When you are running on trails in the dark, light is extremely important. There’s nothing worse then not seeing a rock or divet in the trail and risking injury with a fall or a trip. I have to say I was scared about running in the dark on trails. They can be quite technical and rocky.
I used the Knuckle Lights before the race, and didn’t need my headlamp. My husband didn’t want to bother wearing his headlamp, because my lights were so bright, (I only used them on the dimmer setting too). I would typically bring one Knuckle light and it would suffice.
They cover a wide angle with their extra wide flood beams, which is nice as I was scared I would get sick or annoyed with the lights moving with my arm movements. The light spans so far it’s not a problem; it’s a nice steady light with minimal if any bouncing. I way rather wear these over my headlamp. I actually ate wearing a headlamp.
I love how there’s colors you can chose from so you can run in style (because everyone can see in the dark the color of your lights….;) ), and I love the adjustable straps to fit over your gloves if need be or to fit over bigger hands. You don’t even notice they are there, honestly.
My headlamp was useless at Zion. Without my Knuckle Lights I wouldn’t have been able to see a thing. I wore the headlamp, and both knuckle lights and definitely felt better running on the trails with the Knuckle Lights.
My husband has said over and over again how bright my knuckle lights are. He simply can’t believe it. He always jokes anyone can see me coming from a mile away or that I am blinding traffic. It’s almost crazy the difference between them and my headlamp. It’s safe to say you are highly visible!!
They are lightweight, and offer three different settings. Low, high, and blinking lights. I typically only use the low setting, as they are 45 lumens on high (twice as bright as the typical headlamp). On the trail I used the high setting, because there’s more to watch for.
I know my teammates and I were all thankful for these jewels during the night legs of our race, especially since it was a muddy, slippery mess. Did I mention they are weatherproof?! Score!!
You can even use them for walking, hiking or biking. The founder was motivated to make a light for those that didn’t like wearing headlamps (like himself), and were sick of carrying a flashlight. I think he was successful in his venture.
If you ever consider doing a overnight relay, that involves trails or road, I strongly recommend Knuckle Lights. If you run in the morning hours or later at night, and would rather not wear a headlamp I recommend these. You don’t notice their presence on your knuckles. I don’t have to make any adjustments to my running to keep them in place.
I can say they are worth the money and a great addition to an adventurous runner’s gear.
All opinions are my own and not influenced by the company who sponsored the lights. I only recommend products I truly like, believe in, and that truly work.
P.S. I will have my Bloomsday Race Recap on Wednesday…..it may include a new PR!!

I used someones at Wasatch Back and loved them! You’re right, they are much brighter and more effective than a head lamp, and I found them much more comfortable. Nice detailed review Bry!

I didn’t even know this product existed! Thank you for sharing:) Anything to make running on the roads or trails more safe works for me!
