7 Ways to Resuse Your Nuun Tubes

March 27, 2015 Bryanna

Good Friday Morning!! TGIF….

It’s really not the same saying TGIF now that I have a child. My job doesn’t end on Friday evening and sleeping in on the weekend just doesn’t happen. But I digress…..

You know me and my quirky ways of reusing and recycling everything to reduce my waste. Since we go through Nuun at our house like a teenage boy goes through hairspray and mousse (hehehe, but it’s true my friends), I needed to find ways to put those tubes to use. Yes, we recycle them, but before recycling anything I always try to reuse it first, if at all possible.

An entire cupboard is nearly for the storage of our endless supply of Nuun, thus the amount of waste we generate with Nuun tubes led me to want to somehow find ways we could reuse the tubes. I thought I would share how we reuse our Nuun tubes. They have helped with organization too!!7 ways to reuse your nuun tubes

  1. Tops for airing out shoes – I like to use the tops of my Nuun tubes to help dry out and air out our running shoes. Since we have a plethora of running shoes (it’s almost enough to outfit an entire Ragnar Relay team), we need a plethora of Nuun tube tops. The tops work at keeping the moisture out of the tubes, and work the same with our running shoes. This helps reduce odor and bacteria.
  2. Use for Storing Quarters for Laundry or Parking Meters – Nuun tubes are the perfect size for storing change, whether it’s needed for coin laundry or for plugging the parking meters downtown, you can keep all your change in one organized place. No need to dig through your console or purse looking for loose change anymore.change
  3. Holding Snacks for Kids or Yourself – Two Nuun tubes is about 1/4 cup of nuts, a perfect serving size of healthy fats. Instead of using plastic baggies to hold nuts, I now use the empty Nuun tubes (reducing even more waste). No punctured holds in the tubes, which is common in baggies, so no leakage in the diaper bag or purse. Keeps liquids out too if there’s a spill in the lunch bag. Perfect for holding cheerios, dried cranberries, raisins, and other favorite cereals, like my new favorite Love Grown Foods.
  4. Nuun Lights for Decorating your House or Ragnar Van – I loved this idea from my High Nuun teammate Meghan. We definitely rode in style with our Nuun lights. Great for birthday parties, holiday parties and decorating the outside patio. Colorful and fun!!Photo Sep 06, 19 35 11
  5. Storage for Race Pins, Tacks, Paper-clips, Nails, etc. – From the many races we do a year, Marc and I have accumulated many safety pins. Now we store some in the car just in case we lose our pins, keeping them organized in an empty Nuun tube. Nuun tubes also keep your office and workshop more organized, as they can hold tacks, paper-clips, nails, screws, rubber bands, pencil erases, etc.
  6. Storing Bobby Pins – Females tend to lose bobby pins like crazy, and I have been known to search my bathroom drawers for a loose bobby pin, while trying to keep my hair in place. Empty Nuun tubes to the rescue.
  7. Holding Q-tips For Travel – Water stays out, so if there’s a spill in your travel bag your Q-tips stay dry. Perfect size for keeping Q-tips clean and dry, and ready for use.

Honorable mentions: *You can store crayons in the tubs for road trips or outings. Keeps kids busy and less of a hassle carrying around a few crayons then a whole box that’s bound to rip open.      *Decorating a coffee tumbler, which my husband finally finished!! I guess this is only using the wrappers.marc's nuun cup

*Message’s in a bottle!! Okay, I may or may not have done this. They are waterproof 😉

Basically they can be used for whatever fits in them. So my car, kitchen, office and bathroom may look a little weird with all the Nuun tubes, but at least I am organized and prepared. No need to buy storage containers, when you can re-purpose the ones you already have!!

BTW if you haven’t tried Nuun you need to!! Great for rehydrating after your workouts and hydrating before your workouts. No added sugars and chemicals. Nutritionist approved 🙂 If you don’t have any empty Nuun tubes, you better get on that 😉

Have a wonderful weekend friends!!
