The Legs of My Colorado Ragnar Relay

August 29, 2013 Bryanna

I can’t believe it’s already Thursday!! In one week I will be leaving for Ragnar Colorado Breckenridge to Aspen. I can’t believe how fast it approached.

We decided our legs a while ago, but I thought I would share what my running schedule for the race looks like. I am extremely excited for this race and to see team #highnuun again. It is going to be a blast, and I am sure we will have amazing pictures to share.

As you know, Ragnar Relay and Nuun are sponsoring us for this event. We also have a number of great product sponsors as well, which you’ll learn more about in the proceeding weeks. But for now lets get to the nitty, gritty stuff……

Knowing now what to expect for an ultra relay experience, we have tweaked our eating plan and training plans. I don’t feel like I was able to train as hard as I would have liked to because of my Achilles problem after the Missoula Marathon, but I still believe I can make a good run at it. I am runner number 4 and have a total of 39 miles to cover. And of course we all have some hard legs to run.

Leg 1: 9.2 Miles, Very Hard

To me the elevation gain isn’t bad, especially since I will be losing elevation as well. What’s scary is the elevation I start my run at 9000 FEET!!  I think the distance is what makes this a very hard leg and the the elevation. I am glad to get it out of the way. Doing this leg after running 5 others wouldn’t be fun, I know this from the last Ragnar in Utah. I was happy my last legs were easier. No van support!!

Leg 2: 7.0 Very hard

Again barely any elevation gain, just another long run, with a nice descent at high elevation. Two long runs back to back might make this run a little difficult. This one will probably be in the evening so at least it will be a little cooler.

Leg 3: 5.9 miles, Hard

This will be a night leg. To be honest the night legs aren’t that bad, but they aren’t my favorite either. I like the early morning runs when the sun is just coming up. Again not much for elevation change (way different than my experience at Wasatch Back). No Van Support!!

Leg 4: 4.6, Moderate

Another shorter run with a little bumps here and there. Depending on how we do for time, this could be an early morning run, but there’s no van access on my leg, which is the case for most of my legs.

Leg 5: 2.1, Easy

Love reading the words EASY!! A nice short run, but I am sure it won’t feel short after running 27 miles and being at elevation. Really my legs seem so much easier than Wastach Back. I guess only time will tell.

Leg 6:10.4 Miles, Very Hard

Another leg with no van support. A hard leg to end the race!! Literally, my hardest leg and longest leg is at the end of the race. My legs will be toast by this point and I will have over 1000 feet to climb. This may seem small in comparison to my last Ragnar, but we are running at elevation again and I will have ran 29 miles. Perseverance and determination are going to be what gets me through this last leg!! And my teammates!!

Make sure to follow team #highnuun for updates. I will be posting on facebook, instagram, and twitter throughout the race. We are hoping for another win and we can’t wait for our double medals!!

Anyone ever done Ragnar Colorado?
