Smoothies are every runners best friend, and a great way to disguise veggies for those who don’t like their vegetables. I also love being able to add additional protein to my diet through the use of smoothies.
When I don’t have time to make a protein shake, I use Svelte. It’s great for adding additional protein into your diet, without the chalky taste and high sugars. I have tried many premade protein shakes and haven’t found one I like. Most leave a chalky after taste and are too thick, or they are not vegan and are high in sugar. After a long search, I found Svelte.
Svelte sent me some of their protein shakes to try. They have Chocolate, French Vanilla, Banana, Cappuccino and Chai. Honestly, I love all the flavors, even the cappuccino flavor. I have never been a fan of coffee but Svelte’s cappuccino flavored protein shake is amazing!! I also like that their banana flavor tastes like real bananas not the fake banana taste.
What I love most about svelte, is that it’s low in calories for a protein shake, while providing a significant amount of protein, boasting 11 grams. It also is a great source of B vitamins, and has 5 grams of fiber and only 6 grams of sugar.
I was a little skeptical at first, since Svelte is vegan and uses soy milk. Since soy is one of the most common crops to be genetically modified, I made sure their product was GMO free. Oh happy day!! Svelte is non-GMO, gluten free, dairy free, and low glycemic.
All ingredients are organic and unlike other protein shakes, a shorter ingredient list with no preservatives to worry about. It’s my kind of shake. I love the additional B vitamins and vitamin D (vitamin D is needed for our bone health).
They are quite filling as well. Lately, I have been short on time for breakfast or snacks, so I have been grabbing a svelte after working out for a quick fix of protein and carbs. Convenient for replenishing muscles and refueling when you’re on the go. As someone who is constantly hungry, Svelte shakes have been great at tiding me over.
They don’t need refrigeration until opened, making them easily transportable when traveling.
What’s even better, is that they are great for kids. My picky nephew even likes them. A great way to add calories to a child’s diet, especially if they are needing to gain more weight. The shakes my nephew was using were high in sugar (38 grams of sugar!!) and had additives. Svelte shakes taste better, and don’t have near the sugar or any of the processed junk. Nutritionist approved 😉 I wouldn’t recommend a product I didn’t like or use personally.
I am not a fan of the taste of soymilk, but I love Svelte!! The shakes are great to add to my smoothies as well, mixing the flavors up a bit. I tried many combinations with their chocolate, french vanilla, banana and cappuccino flavors. I thought I would share my recipe for Green Cappuccino Smoothie and my Chocolate Tart Cherry Smoothie (a runner’s paradise).
Green Cappuccino Smoothie
Even though I have never liked coffee (unless I am pregnant, then I crave it) I love this smoothie combination. The peanut butter and cappuccino goes great together, but what doesn’t peanut butter go great with?! It’s one of my husband’s favorite. Coffee lovers you’ll want to try this.
I added greens like baby kale, spinach and chard to my smoothie, which are tasteless in this combination. The only way you can tell there’s even greens in the smoothie is from the color. Great way to get your kiddo’s or picky spouses their daily greens. With temperatures warming up, this is a great for an afternoon snack after playing outside with the kiddo’s or after those sweaty workouts.
- 1 Cappuccino Svelte
- 1 frozen banana
- 1-2 Tbs Peanut Butter
- 1-2 Scoops Protein Powder (I use plant based)
- 2 handfuls Greens (I used spinach, kale, & chard mix)
- Ice Cubes
- Place all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.
- Divide between two glasses and ENJOY!!
Click the link for my Chocolate Tart Cherry Smoothie. Rich in anti-inflammatory properties with the tart cherries, and a good source of essential fatty acids and potassium in the addition of avocado, with protein. A great addition to a runner’s diet.
You can find Svelte at Wal-Mart, Costco, Safeway and other grocers. My natural market carries them. Click here to find locations of grocers that carry Svelte near you. Don’t forget to follow them on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. They always have great inspiration, recipes and workout ideas!!
