New Recipes with my Barlean’s Chocolate Greens

July 18, 2013 Bryanna

I received a package in the mail earlier in the week from Barlean’s. Barlean’s is an awesome company that makes healthy nutritional products and fish oils. I received coconut oil, chocolate greens, and Omega Swirl.

Omega swirl is a healthy fish oil (or Flaxseed oil) that is flavored to make it easier to consume. Fish oils are important to our health in that they are great for fighting inflammation, supplying healthy omega 3’s and 6’s, support healthy nails, skin and hair, and are important for brain development, among other things. Omega 3’s and 6’s need to be apart of any runners diet, it will help race performance and recovery.

The Omega Swirl is flavored fish oil or you can get it in flaxseed oil, so you aren’t left with that fishy or oily taste and it’s better than having to swallow horse sized pills. I love their fish oil, because I trust their products are safe.

I use coconut oil for everything. I use it for lotion, in my cooking, as a spread instead of butter, in my smoothies and to wash my face. Coconut oil has many uses and also has a natural SPF of 4, so can be used to make sunscreen. You want a coconut oil that is raw, vegan and cold pressed, which is exactly what they offer at Barlean’s.

Barlean’s Chocolate Greens, a new product, are great to use in smoothies, for hot chocolate, in coffee (I have a friend who says it’s great), and can be added in cookies, protein bars, and puddings. It has 5 servings of vegetables and antioxidants with important vitamins and minerals and no sugar. It’s dairy and soy free and has superfoods in it. There’s different flavors to chose from too.

I made some recipes using the chocolate greens today. I made a smoothie this morning with almond milk, peanut butter, chia seeds, frozen banana, and a scoop of Barlean’s chocolate greens. I also added a handful of spinach, because I need to use some up. So good!! If you love chocolate and peanut butter then you will love this smoothie. Try it tomorrow with this recipe.

I have made this before, but decided to sub Barlean’s chocolate greens for cocoa powder. Using Barlean’s adds an extra health punch with the probiotics, antioxidants, and fruits and veggies.

It makes for a great dessert, with healthy fats from the avocado and the healthy ingredients from the chocolate greens. All you need is a blender some banana, avocado, chocolate greens, and chia seeds. It’s that simple. Here’s the full recipe.

I also made some raw almond bites using my new Barlean’s Chocolate Greens for after workouts. (I know I went a little crazy today with Barlean’s). It gave them a chocolatey flavor with some hidden healthy ingredients you can’t even taste are there. Recipe here!!

Oh and I made a great spicy coleslaw last night as well, and wanted to share the recipe (sorry no chocolate greens here, but still amazingly good 😉 ). It’s one of my favorites and is a much healthier version compared to the typical coleslaw.

You’ll need a food processor to help slice all the veggies. It makes it a little faster or you can chop them yourself. I added some jalepenos to give it a bit of a kick, but if you’re not into spicy you don’t have to add them. It’s a vegan and raw salad, and makes for a great addition to summer dishes.

I challenge you to try the new Barlean’s Chocolate Greens and their Omega Swirls. Add the greens to a smoothie, your coffee, some yogurt, ice cream, milk, or make a new recipe with it. Have some fun. You would be amazed at how fun and easy it is. Just sub it for cocoa powder in some recipes.

Have you ever used Barlean’s or tried their products? What’s you current fish oil?
