Let’s just delve right into this!! Jamaica is filled with endless fun and adventures. It was just an adventure leaving the country to spend a week in a foreign place experiencing the culture.
Marc and I didn’t really get to experience the culture of Jamaica as much as we would have liked to. But there were definitely favorites of Jamaica. It’s an amazing place and getting to experience a new place with your significant other is always a blessing.
Here are some of the adventures of Marc and I
Climbing the Dunns River Falls
We left around 8 a.m. Jamaican Time (this is usually 15-30 minutes later than what they tell you. It’s their lax culture) for a 2 hour drive to the falls. Our Tour guide, Georgia, was great. She showed us the many different attractions and described the history of Jamaica. We learned so much about the island. She also took the time to get to know everyone on the bus. She was hilarious. She gave us tips on how to barter with Jamaicans and told us to “never take the first price.” She also said to “listen to momma Georgia.” Loved it.
We made a pit stop to pee, get some water shoes, and snacks at some convenience store.
Within 15 minutes, we were off again. At the Dunns River Falls Park, we were greeted with great guides to lead us up the falls. Our guide’s held our camera that wasn’t water proof, and some how managed to keep it dry. They took our photos, made jokes, and yelled phrases for us to chant. It was great.
The falls are amazing!! They were apparently the source of water for Columbus and the freshest water on the island. They flow into the ocean. The water is definitely cooler than the warm ocean water…it was refreshing.
Our Guides. We went down to the bottom of the falls and then climbed up.
The guide kept telling us to Kiss….then he said “Save some for later” hilarious
After treking up the falls, we walked through a street fair back to the bus.
Then enjoyed a bus ride back to the resort. If you’re ever in Jamaica you have to see these falls!!
Sailing and Snorkeling
I mentioned this in my previous post as well, but I feel I need to give it more of a description. Again the guides and crew were awesome. They really wanted to make sure we were cared for. Marc and I sat up front on the nets of the sailboat.
We enjoyed watching the coastline get farther and farther away. Once we sailed for over an hour we were at the reefs and getting our snorkeling gear on.
I took a couple quick pointers from the crew and was off. It was great seeing all the different colors under the water. I only coughed up some salt water a couple of times.
On the way back the tides had turned….literally. They warned us it could get a little wet, so don’t sit up front. Marc and I moved to the back. I don’t think the crew was prepared for how wet it was going to get. It was windy and water was splashing everywhere. We hit a couple good waves, which resulted in water pouring in and washing everyone’s stuff everywhere. The crew started yelling at each other and were trying to fix the sails. I have never been so scared for my life. Looking back on it, it was fun and I can joke about it now. But in that moment I was yearning to be back on shore. The closer we got the more at peace I felt.
Driving
Marc and I never drove, but riding with the Jamaican’s was an adventure. They not only drive like crazy people, in a good way, but they drive on the left side of the road so it took some getting used to. The drive from the airport to the resort kept my heart racing. It was hot and humid and blood sugar was low, mix this with the new style of driving and you don’t feel so hot (well actually you do, but you know what I mean).
Eating
Trying all the different foods was interesting and amazing. I could have lived on the fresh mango!! I wish I could have taken some home with me. That and the fresh coconut drinks. The Jamaicans literally walk up the trees grab you a coconut cut the top off and stick a straw in it…mmmm good!!
We tried Caribbean food and the different restaurants at the resort. It was all about presentation. The waitress’s and waiter’s were so great. They loved to make convo with you. I fell in love with their Bammies. The easiest way to describe this is french toast. My favorite breakfast food with their porridge.
Bonfires
The resort had activities throughout the week days and evenings. Every night there was a different show and party. Marc and I attended the White Party. You wore told to wear white There was dancing and a huge bonfire.
This was them putting the bonfire together.
It was intense. One of the biggest I have seen.
These parties were great for people watching. We sadly missed the bikini party.
These photos bring back bittersweet memories!! ….okay a little dramatic.Stay tuned for the last of Jamaica.
