I finally got around to packing a bag for the hospital over the weekend. I figured it would be a good idea to have one ready as the due date draws near.
Besides cleaning and trying to prepare some meals and stock up the cupboards and freezer with food, there’s not much left to do before baby arrives. Everyone keeps telling me to sleep, sleep, sleep, but that’s not going to happen with all the discomfort. I have never been so exhausted in my life.
So what have I been doing the last couple of weeks to help prepare for baby? Well here’s a short list:
- Washing all of baby’s clothes and bedding, as well as cloth diapers.
- Getting the last of the items on the baby registry that will be needed for when baby arrives (other stuff can wait)
- Trying to keep the house clean, which can be challenging with all the boxes arriving and all the throwing out of stuff we are doing
- Washing baby bottles and breast feeding storage related stuff
- Trying to read about different labor techniques – I did sign up for a class but it’s not until October 6th (cuts it kind of close, so a little nervous)
- Packed baby’s bag
- Packed my bag
- Telling Marc to pack his bag 😉
- Stocking up the cupboards with staples and the freezer – This way we have quick, healthy snacks and meals on hand. I haven’t been able to prep ahead for meals because of a lack of freezer space, but I’ll have my mom in town (thank goodness)
- Trying to stay caught up with school and work ahead on my projects when I can
- Beginning my shopping for October birthdays in our family (we have so many)
- And finally trying to spend as much time with my hubby as I can, because when baby comes it may be awhile before we have a date or night out!!

I never realized how much there is to get ready for a baby!! It’s crazy all the prepping that has to happen. I am so thankful I have such a helpful hubby. It’s been fun, but also exhausting at the same time. I am kind of getting nervous about D-day!!
Even with all of the errands, Marc and I snuck away on Sunday to pick some apples and squash. We plan on dehydrating some apples and I will make some applesauce. All the squash will be great for chili and meals after baby arrives. Also, have lots of sugar pie pumpkins that I can cook and puree, then freeze for use in breads, cookies and muffins.
I love the Fall season!!
I would really love any tips of opinions on what’s needed in my hospital bag or what to have done before baby comes...anything I should be doing before baby arrives that will make the transition easier? Anything I should take with me to the hospital I am missing? Anything on my list that’s not necessary?
……and Go……
Oh I hope you all had a great weekend!!

So exciting that it’s so close! I honestly can’t remember what I took but I do know that I didn’t think I needed all that much. Not the way some people think.
I didn’t take diapers to the hospital – we did disposable – and they have them at the hospital. No need to buy them.
As far as home, I would make sure to have quick, healthy snacks. I was so hungry nursing that I’d eat Clif bars in the middle of the night!

Thank you for the tips Kimberly!! I will definitely keep healthy snacks on hand for when baby arrives.

Yes. The hospital will have diapers and wipes, ect. And if your using cloth you might want to hold off until you get home anyway. Baby poops a lot in the beginning and it’s not normal. 🙂 You won’t need much for baby.
And as for me. I never wore a bra in the hospital. You’re nursing all the time and it just made things way more comfortable to not have one at all. And if you feel up for wearing makeup-all the more power to you! You probably won’t wear the robe either but maybe that’s just me. I just lived in sweats/yoga attire. I really needed Chapstick though and earplugs/eye mask! There will be so many noises/nurses coming in to check on you or the baby it’s nuts.
I would recommend if you have time to try and make some freezer meals before the baby comes too. It will make your life a bit easier in the weeks whenever you need an easy meal as you won’t have much energy to cook! Good luck!

thank you so much Laurie!! I appreciate all these tips. I have the chapstick and will be adding the eye mask. Good thinking. The freezer meals I am working on for sure. I was more thinking the makeup for the way home, but I probably won’t even use it.

Awww it’s so exciting packing and preparing for baby arrival but your right it takes A Lot of planning!! You’re an awesome planner though so I’m sure you will be more than prepared. You may not need the Baby Book unless you had a specific use that I’m not aware of. The only thing I would give advice on and you may have already heard is that things may not go as planned for labor so stick to your plan but be flexible for changes that could occur, all that matters is delivering a healthy baby 🙂 I learned that the hard way from my experience which was not what I wanted but all in all it didn’t matter because I had a healthy baby girl 3 1/2 years ago and now I’ll be delivering another in December. 🙂

Thank you Kristie!! I am working on the being flexible part!! You just never know.
Vanessa, I had Marc get the camera ready, and batteries are charged. Flip flops for the shower is a great suggestion!!Thanks for the suggestions.

Hair tie, flip flops for the shower, music you might want in the background while laboring, camera, maybe a nursing cover for when guests show up. I would recommend Marc having comfy shoes and clothes in case labor takes a while. That’s all I can think of that you might want.
