Sunday marked 3 weeks since delivering Baby R. I think being in Grad school has helped to make time just fly by. Baby girl and I have been keeping pretty busy.
She had her 2 week appointment a week and a half ago. The doctor says she is looking great and is happy with her weight gain. I was worried she wasn’t eating enough, because she was sleeping so much and I have to wake her up every 3 hours during the day to feed her and every 4 during the night. Sometimes she was so difficult to wake, I would skip an entire feeding.
The doctor was not concerned with all her sleeping, because she was already 7 pounds 9 ounces at her appointment. I am sure she is now 8 pounds or more. The doctor said that because of her stay in the NICU and all the trauma she went through, she just many need more sleep.
As of right now, Baby R is a on a good schedule. I still wake her throughout the day, but she is much easier to wake. She eats about every 2 1/2 – 3 hours during the day. She goes to bed around 8 – 8:30 every night, and is up again at 1 a.m. to eat, then again at 5 a.m., and then at 8 a.m. I am really blessed to have a baby that sleeps so much during the night.
Her night time feedings are her largest. It usually takes an hour to breast feed, burp and change her diaper. I wish it was the opposite, with day time feedings longer so I could get more sleep. It’s really hard to fall back asleep after being up for an hour or more.
She is becoming quite alert. She loves to stare at her mom and dad. Baby R also loves to be held by me, which makes it difficult to do my grad work. It has resorted to me wearing her in the wrap just so I can accomplish all my tasks.
Thankfully one class ends this week, and the other the first week of December. And then I am done with Grad School!!
Her most awake time is typically in the mornings. She’s awake from 8 a.m. until around 10 a.m. Then she has another awake time from 5:00/5:30 p.m. until she goes to bed at 8/8:30 p.m. Really she’s an easy baby, and rarely ever cries. The only time she cries is when we do her sponge bath. She hates that. We can finally do a regular bath though, because her cord just fell out last night.
We took some pictures of her at 2 weeks and again at 3 weeks for her baby announcements. It was funny, because getting photos of her sleeping were the hardest. It seemed she would always wake up when we were trying to do those. Of course. They still turned out great!!

Also got in some family shots.
Marc and I are loving our time with baby girl. We are getting into more of a routine now. I have learned it takes far longer to get ready to go anywhere. Also, I have learned you can never have to many diaper pad covers and diapers!! She’s definitely not shy about her bowel movements 😉
BTW we love our clothe diapers. We use g-diapers. They are working great. No complaints.
Until Next Time Be Whole and Be Fit.
What was the hardest thing to adjust to with your new born?
