Another week has flown by!! I can’t believe Thanksgiving is already less than a week away. I will have some tips for keeping the holidays healthy on Monday.
Baby girl turned 1 month old on Wednesday. Yes I know another update. I plan to do monthly updates from here on out 😉
She’s doing great. I tried measuring her at home since her next appointment isn’t until January for her 2 month checkup. She is 22 and some change inches long. Not quite sure what she weighs now though. Â I am sure over 8 pounds. Some of her newborn p.j.’s are too short for her and she has outgrown them. She has some long legs.
Baby R is still wearing newborn clothes, but I don’t think she’ll be in them for much longer. I can’t wait until she can wear these cute new outfits we received from OshKoshBgosh as a free gift.
It was a wonderful surprise!!
Baby R doesn’t drink as much milk as I produce, so my freezer supply of milk is ever growing. I only have to pump at night for some relief, since she doesn’t wake for 5-6 hours. There’s rare occasions of some pumping throughout the day.
Sleeping
I feed her at 8 p.m. and she is in bed around 8:30/9 ish. She wakes up around 1:30 / 2ish to eat, and sometimes these feedings take longer than an hour.
She then wakes up again in between 6-7 a.m. Lately she’s had an awake time after her morning feeding, taking a short cat nap before really falling asleep around 11 a.m. Throughout the day she is eating every 3-4 hours.
She has another awake period after 5 p.m. until she goes to bed.
 Personality
Baby R is so easy going and rarely ever cries. The loudest I have ever heard her cry is when I have to stop to burp her during her feedings. She can get quite mad sometimes. Baby R doesn’t like to burp.
She loves to be held by mamma. Sometimes she’ll act like she is hungry just so I hold her, and she has the widest little grin / smirk on her face. It’s the cutest thing. I really need to catch it for a photo.
Sometimes when she’s napping she’ll let out a little cry, and I just let her know I am right here and brush her cheek. She then falls right back asleep. I can’t get enough of her!!
Marc and I are going to take a picture of her every month until she is 1 year, than every year until she is 18 to help show her growth. A lady at one of my races this summer gave us the idea. We thought it would be a good way of documenting her growth. So we decided to do a picture next to running shoes. You chose one item to have in the picture, this way you can truly see how much bigger she is getting. Since we are a running family, running shoes were the item.
How is mom doing? I can’t complain because my baby sleeps so much more than most babies. I am blessed to get more sleep than most new parents do. It is hard for me to fall back asleep, but I can’t complain. I try to get to bed by 9:30 so I can get at least 4-5 hours in before she wakes up. Averaging 6-7 hours a night is not bad.
Running is going well. I am up to 6 miles now and doing 5 days a week. We had our first family run on Tuesday night. It was 31 degrees so we thought we would take Baby R out in the new B.O.B stroller. We have a weather shield so she stayed cozy. She looked adorable.
Now for some good eats!! I have been eating lots of sweet potatoes lately. I go through these phases. Wednesday night I wanted something hearty and savory, so I made a Vegan Curried Lentil Stew. I added sweet potatoes and carrots.
I love curries. They are so warming, and taste especially good during the cold winter months. The spices in this stew will definitely warm those chilled bones, and they help to make you feel full so much faster. This is a simple recipe with very few ingredients, but yet it’s hearty and filling. Serve it over brown rice or quinoa, or you can eat it plain. Enjoy!!
Â
- 2 sweet potatoes, chopped
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 1 c red lentils
- ½ c onion, chopped
- 1 leek, chopped (optional)
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1-2 Tbs oil
- 1½ tsp curry powder
- ½ tsp cardamom
- ½ tsp corainder
- ½ tsp cumin
- salt and pepper to taste
- 3-4 c water
- Heat oil over medium heat in a large saucepan. Add onions, leeks and garlic and saute for 5 minutes.
- Add carrots, sweet potatoes, lentils, and water. Bring to boil.
- Reduce heat to low, and add all the spices.
- Cover and simmer until carrots, lentils and sweet potatoes are soft.
- Once done serve over rice or quinoa. Or serve alone.
Enjoy your weekend Friends!! And watch for my post on Monday on staying healthy through the holidays.
Until Next Time Be Whole and Be Fit

It sounds like you guys have a great routine for R– she has the best momma ever! The curried stew looks yummy– bet R likes it too– curried milk! haha. I wish you were around when I had my twins, I might have hit you up for some of your milk. My twins were so hungry and my boy finally had to take formula because he wasn’t gaining enough weight. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving– I’ll be curious to see what you eat– I’m trying to go completely Vegan– I struggle, but in my heart, I know it’s the right thing to do.

Thanks Lisa!! I have a great sweet potato dish for the holidays our family loves instead of the traditional high calorie dish. I make it without the full cream.
