Yes, I am one of those mothers who tries to reduce, reuse and recycle in all areas of my life. My husband finds it annoying at times and my family thinks I am crazy. Children can have a major environmental impact. From toys, bottles, baby food, formula and diapers. Diapers take over 500 years to decompose and on average an infant to toddler will use over 8,000 diapers over their lifetime.
As consumers we produce over 4 pounds of waste per day. I find that to be a large amount of waste and almost sickening. So I chose to use cloth diapers for Baby R. It’s more work at times and sometimes gross, but I feel better about my carbon footprint. I know I am contributing less to the waste already generated in America, and I don’t have to be concerned about synthetic dyes and chemicals.
Disclaimer: Though I was given free product to review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have tried almost every cloth diaper out there, spending lots of money on cloth diapers. In the long run I will end up saving, but at first it’s an investment. Trying to find the perfect fit for our family was tough. Then I found Thirsties. I wanted a brand that wouldn’t leak, was a less bulky feeling, grows with baby, and easy clean up.
Thirsties are great. There’s many colors and prints to chose from, and they offer different sizes from newborn to large. I love the one size pocket diapers personally, because they grow with baby, thus I don’t have to buy more as baby grows, saving even more money. I was sent One Size Pocket Diapers from Thirsties to try and review (and spoiler alert, I get to giveaway one free, your print of choice, style and size).
I haven’t had any problems with leaking and Baby R seems to enjoy them. I love being able to adjust for a perfect fit. The hemp insert offers extra protection and absorbency, with 5 layers of hemp. You can use it together with the newborn insert (3 layers of microfiber) for more absorbency. They snap together. Great for nights and long naps!!
Each diaper has a signature leg gusset that provides secure leak protection. The one size pocket diaper comes with both the newborn insert, and the full size insert. One size diaper fits an infant to toddler from 8-40 pounds, so you can have the diaper for years. The outer layer is waterproof too!! You can wash the inserts and outer layer together, and don’t have to worry about removing the insert, it easily finds it’s way out in the wash. I like the pocket openings on both sides, making them easier to stuff.
Choose from snap closure or a hook and loop closure. The snap closure makes it harder for a toddler to take off the diaper when they get to the age of wanting to be naked all the time. 😉  Also, they have a great One Size All In One diaper, with faster drying time and it’s quicker to use. No need to stuff the diaper with an insert, as it already has 4 layers of absorbency built in. There are Duo Wraps, that can be wiped clean for multiple uses, adding more convenience to cloth diapering and a better fit for each individual family. See cloth diapering can be fun and cute!!
You can lessen you carbon footprint even more, knowing that Thirsties manufactures all their products in Colorado, with quality products, supporting the local economy. Their warehouse is powered by wind energy, 100% powered!! They reduce, resuse and recycle, and don’t use any materials from China. Thirsties is also a member of the Green American Green Business Network. Read more about the business here. I love that even the diaper itself is produced in a eco-friendly manner, in the USA, as most cloth diapers aren’t.
You can also find other diaper accessories, from a diaper pail liner to cloth wipes to creams for baby’s booty on their website. I recommend a wet bag for the diaper bag, it makes carrying around soiled diapers cleaner!! 😉 Check the accessories out here. I have never used cloth diapers, but why not try!! I like the All in One diapers. They seem easy to use and less time to put together. So many great colors to chose from. I like the sand dollar color and the blues. Perfect for a baby boy.

I am sad to say that I did not use cloth diapers- having twins was double the waste, and, no pun intended, not using cloth diapers “weighed heavy” on my mind. I think you are the most amazing Mom and responsible beyond your years. I am incredibly impressed by how Motherhood has taken shape in your life.

I used cloth diapers on and off with my second child, I love all-in-one diapers, they are so easy! I would love to try the new one size AIOs in Sweetheart, but I know it was a limited edition so I doubt I’ll get my hands on one…

I use cloth diapers, but have never used Thirsties brand diapers. Their new newborn AIO is absolutely adorable. My favorite print is School of Fish, but the solid aqua color is also a favorite.
Thank you for the great review!
