I am in my marathon taper, and once again I was looking forward to the taper. Typically I hate tapering before any big race, but during this marathon training cycle and the last marathon training cycle I looked forward to tapering and less mileage. Nursing, coaching and running has taken a lot out of me. I have also been working on my Marathon Coaching certification as well, so I have very little free time.
My body is looking forward to some TLC after this marathon, and lower mileage. It will help some injuries repair and my body to recover. I am learning to be more intentional with my recovery. Many products can help with recovery. My favorite our foam rollers, golf balls or tennis balls, the Roll Recovery, The Stick, fish oils, MSM, and compression socks.
Disclaimer: PROCompression sent me a free pair of marathon compression socks, in return I was asked to do a review. I was not compensated for my opinions (other than the free pair of socks), and all opinions and thoughts are my own.
Over the past few years, compression socks have been a new running product I have fell in love with. They have become a necessity in my training, especially during marathon training or when participating in ultra relay events. PROCompression sent me a pair of marathon compression socks, which have become more of an every day sock for me. They are one of my favorite brands of compression socks. One of the first brands I started with, and have stuck with.
I wear compression socks on a regular basis during marathon training. The night before long runs I always wear them and the night/day after my long runs you’ll see me sporting them. They help to aid my recovery after long runs, keeping the muscles cramp free and easing muscular discomfort. They are especially helpful after the race if you are traveling back home, either in a car or airplane, as they promote healthy circulation (and will ease the muscle soreness from being crammed in a car.
On those recovery runs after a long run or a hard workout, I wear them as well. It makes my run easier, as my legs don’t seem as sore or my calves as tight and tender. PROCompression marathon socks are perfect for running in, and they are slim enough to fit under leggings, running tights, and jeans. Now that it’s fall and boot season, it typical for me to wear my compression socks under my boots and skinny jeans. You won’t even notice them under your clothes (maybe a little tightness), but they will be working to reduce swelling and inflammation.
They are a light material and breathable, so can be worn in the summer months as well without getting hot spots or blisters. The socks provide just enough padding for the soles of the feet, and will feel tight (that’s how they are supposed to feel). The material doesn’t irritate or rub. The marathon socks are versatile, and can be worn as a recovery or during your races and runs. Compression socks help to increase blood flow, relieving muscular discomfort. I strongly believe they do just that too. PROCompression are the creators of the “world’s best athletic performance socks” and they have definitely lived up to that title.

My favorite way to recovery from a long run is to hop in our pool– the colder the better! Also love good compression gear!

A pool deep would seem marvelous wish I had that option

I have a pair of Tiux socks, but I’ve been very interested in ProCompression. I usually wear calf sleeves for recovery but my go to is a golf ball that I roll my feet on when they’re sore. Feels like heaven and hell at the same time.
Bry says
Yes the golf ball trick!! I do that frequently!! I agree it’s a hurts so good pain.
