Life as a mother can be not so glamorous. There’s snot, tears, puke, dirt, cuts, scrapes, screaming, tantrums, name calling, sibling fights, slammed doors, thrown toys, torn books. The list is endless. Motherhood is a job that tests us moms everyday. Motherhood challenges us everyday. Motherhood surprises us everyday.
Since I am on a mission to be more real, vulnerable and open about my life as a mom, I wanted to share posts of motherhood. The challenges, surprises, the good and bad, the love and the pain, the ups and downs. Life as a mom is a rollercoaster ride, even sometimes it’s a daily rollercoaster ride for me.
So if you were to walk or run (that’s my preferred mode of transportation 😉 ) a mile in my shoes as a mom, you might just find the following. It’s real, it’s raw, it’s a mile in my shoes as a mom .
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you might pretend to retain a book or magazine you are pretending to read while the kids cry and scream. In reality you are only dreaming about reading a book or magazine without any interruptions.
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you might shed some tears at any given moment for no reason at all.
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you might have smiles and joy on your face while watching your daughter read & sing to her babies and brother and care for them.
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you might feel alone and empty even though you are surrounded by children all day every day.
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you might raise your voice and yell because the stress and frustrations are mounting, and it’s only 9 a.m and you patientce has already been worn thin.
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you might daydream of free time, a hot cup of tea / coffee, a good book, a comfy chair, a quiet, clean home with no distractions all at the same time!!
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you might feel like a supermom, on top of the world, indestructible and full of energy, unwavering and calm.
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you might feel like a failure, scared, impatient and like you have no idea what you are doing, where you going, why you are doing it, how you will survive, and when the madness will end.
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you might say a few more prayers some days, begging for mercy and grace, and the strength to conquer each day.
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you may have a sparkling clean home feeling like a superhero for 5 WHOLE minutes, only to be ruined by spilled milk, kids toys, dirty shoes, and the dogs hair. You might wonder why you even bother, but yet every Wednesday you endure the housecleaning task yet again, the loosing battle of a clean house, because you don’t like giving up and you find enjoyment in those 5 minutes of a clean house.
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you may feel like your job has no meaning or significance, that no one notices what you are doing, nor cares about what you are doing, but you keep on doing.
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you may cuddle and snuggle your kids a few moments longer at night before bed, or read a few extra books, because you want to soak up all the moments as mom as you can.
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you serve cereal for dinner some nights or boxed mac’n’cheese, because you have no motivation to cook & you are too exhausted to even care about nutrition.
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you might envy other mothers and their children, wondering how they can manage it all, wishing your children behaved the same way or would sit that quietly and still for just a mere 5 minutes. Thinking, what am I doing wrong?
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you crave alone time, freedom, and on those rare occasions you find some, and you leave home and the kids for a bit, all you think about is your kids and the mess you will probably find upon your arrival back home.
If you were to run a mile in my shoes as a mom, you might thank God almost daily for the precious lives you get to nurture and care for, those children you get to raise, and the gift they are to you, praying that you cherish every moment, and praying they will always be protected. Thanking God for giving you the best gift and the privilege of calling them your own.

What’s a mile in your shoes as mom like?

I can totally relate. In fact, I blew up the other night on my husband. I had been stuffing my feelings for so long that I forgot that I actually had emotions. I feel like robot maid that is here to clean and cook. I blew up because I got tired of feeling like my family is royalty and I’m the downstairs maid. I blew up because sometimes I wonder if my job REALLY has a significance. I blew up because no one ever asks me how my day was, it’s always me who is listening. I of course, came to my senses and my more mature voice of reason finally backed the other voice off the cliff, but it took a good 48 hours. I can relate my most precious friend. I dream about being your pioneer women neighbor, so we can find the humor together in these things.
