We have been on a role with posts lately! Do you think it will stick?
I have been organizing my life and planning nearly everything out, to stay productive and on task, and try to get rid of the time wasters in my life. From dinners and lunches to workouts and meetings. My husband and I live a life of joyful chaos, and we are praying it’s only for a season. Or least the season of having kids in the house….lol.
Just over a week ago, I had fun in a 15k and wanted to share the recap with you all. It definitely lived up to it’s name in being cold and having to be bold in the cold. It was actually snowing early that morning in North Texas. Obviously we aren’t “surprised” by snow as we are Northerners turned Southerners; just surprised when it snows in Texas, because that far from the norm.
There was 25-30 mph sustained winds and wind gusts up to 45 mph. I was thankful this was a run without a stroller. At one point in the race I was literally blown off the course and nearly tripped. Our double stroller caught air, flipping and nearly hitting another car when it landed. Thankfully, it is still in one piece and no children were in it. To top the windy race day conditions, we all had the flu days prior. It started with R throwing up Wednesday morning. By Wednesday night both R and L were throwing up, covering me in throw up. By Thursday early morning, Marc and I were throwing up and had diarrhea. I wasn’t sure if it was the flu or food poisoning. Thursday was miserable, Friday was my only recovery day.
Friday before the race I managed a double stroller run, feeling lethargic. A teething infant was added to the mix, and made for a long few weeks. Actually, it has been a long few months. Saturday morning I wasn’t motivated for a race, especially in the conditions. But I showed up race morning ready to run, not ready to race. My main goal shifted with the windy conditions and I was over a minute off my goal time, while still being happy with my effort and result.
I stayed up with the guys, not letting anyone pass me, but not able to draft off anyone either ran me down. I was expending a lot more energy in the headwinds, and tried to keep my legs rolling. They felt heavy and numb. The wind was brutal. My pace stay pretty consistent and each mile was faster than the last, but that is my MO. I didn’t allow much time for warming up with nursing the babe and trying to stay out of the wind, so I knew my first few miles would act as another warm up.
I tried to keep a steady effort, even in the headwinds and for the most part did good. I ended up first overall female and 8th overall in a time of 59:47. R was afraid we would all be “winded away.” 😉 It was fun to explore a new area of Texas and run near a lake. I have moments of wishing I was out of the nursing stage, but it’s been so long since having a race where I wasn’t pregnant or nursing (5+ years long). One day!
Hope you all have a wonderful week and weekend!! Thanks for tuning in.
