My Handana Review

September 27, 2013 Bryanna

Happy Friday Folks!!

I am finally back into the swing of things (well sort of). After the wedding I spent many days trying to finish up final projects for the semester for my master’s program and I tried organizing the house. It’s looking so much better.

I wanted to dedicate some posts recognizing the great sponsors and product we had for Ragnar CO. Don’t miss my posts detailing our great team, first day of runs, and second day of runs.

One of the products High Nuun was blessed with having was from My Handana. For those of you who don’t know what a Handana is, I will lay it out for you: a bandanna for the hand. My-Hand-danna. It wraps around your hand, keeping your fingers free to do whatever (which makes it great for biking as well) It was great!!

powered by sweaty bands

If you’re anything like me, you sweat when you run. And if it’s hot, sunny, and you’re running at elevation, you sweat even more. I am constantly trying to wipe the sweat off my forehead before it drips into my eyes. No one likes to be blinded by irritating sweat. It was something I thought I would have to live with for the rest of my running life. I thought you simply wipe the sweat with the back of your hand or forearm and run on or you deal with the burning eyes. Then I was introduced to this amazing product….

Now I don’t like running with anything in my hands. I have gotten used to my mace, but when it comes to handheld water bottles, I hate it. I can only do it for so long, as with my mace. After about an hour of running I ditch the handheld and get irritated with my mace. I wasn’t sure how I was going to like running with the Handana around my hand for over 9 sweaty miles.

Let’s be honest: It was amazing. You could barely feel it on your hand. It didn’t rub (it’s made with soft, durable and wicking fabric) or itch or anything, and I put it to the ultimate test. Finally having something to catch the sweat before it dripped into my eyes or ran down my nose, was immensely appreciated. Using the back of my hand (or front) to wipe sweat has a whole new level of meaning now. I love how the company states it “Handana handles the sweat so you can focus on your finish line“. #TRUTH!!

The story behind the Handana is worth the read. The motivation behind it’s creation was because of the owners battle with Stevens-Johnson SJS, which left her eyes very sensitive. Sweat running into the eyes burned, and mad her marathon training hard, especially in the Texas heat. She needed a solution and the My Handana was a result. Click here for more on the story from creator Katie Niemeyer.

Handana is not just useful for sweat. Snot anyone? or Cotton Mouth? Works like a champ. It’s great for colder morning runs. Now with fall approaching, when you get that runny nose from the cold air, I love being able to wipe at my nose by using an actual bandanna made for the hand. Pure Genius!!

I absolutely love this product!! I am investing in more (because after using the same Handana for over 39 miles at Ragnar CO without a wash, got a little gross after thinking about it). Even through 39 miles with no cleaning, it was great though (just a little stinky byt the end of the trip 😉 ). No complaints!!

Believe me I wouldn’t recommend this product if I didn’t think it was useful and necessary. I was a little reluctant to try it, and almost thought it was just another one of those running gimmicks. The HONEST TRUTH is that it is amazing and so worth it!! You’ll be thankful you took my advice and invested in a Handana for your next race or run. And it looks cool, with many colors to chose from!! What’s not to love?!
