TGIF!!
I don’t know why I love Friday’s so much, but lately they have become my favorite day of the week. Maybe it’s because I can enjoy the weekend without work. 6 months ago you wouldn’t have ever heard me say that. I loved my job that much!! I can’t wait to have a job I completely love again….don’t get me wrong my job is great most days, but its definitely not my calling (topic for another day). I just miss those boys I worked with. Love those little guys!!
So I finally realized I forgot to tell you about a race I am doing shortly after Boston…..and when I mean shortly I mean, Boston Monday than the race the next weekend. Basically I fly back home from Boston have a couple of days (in which I won’t miss my little nephew’s 2nd birthday) and jump onto a plane headed to Utah to run a Ragnar Relay Trail race.
As you know it’s definitely not my first rodeo for a relay race. And this time it won’t be an ultra at high elevation (that’s for later, team HighNuun reunion ya’ll). Although, it will be at higher elevation and it will be a trail race, which I haven’t ever done before. Yes I run trails!! I love running trails, but I have never ran trails through the night in Zion National Park in Utah as a team.
It’s going to be such an amazing experience. I am super excited. A trail relay has 8 members (unless you do an ultra then only 4), with 3 different legs each. Everyone runs the same 3 loops, beginning and ending at the general campsite. Yes we literally camp out!! I am just hoping it’s not that cold in April in Utah at night and it doesn’t rain, because that will make for a long race.
My team is comprised of both male and females (first ever co-ed relay I have ran) and all our Nuun ambassadors. Nuun is sponsoring our race, so our race entry was covered and all our hydration needs and food for the weekend. It’s a great perk for being an ambassador. I love that company!! I really only know Holly on our team, from running two Ragnars with her last year. Love that girl. But it’s not like I haven’t ran with strangers before, that’s nothing out of the ordinary. 😉
Ned is picking us up and driving us to the start of the race. Even though we don’t need a van driver, he just can’t resist another relay experience. Seriously the best van driver EVER!!. We’ll be staying with him before and after the race and hopefully meet up with Vieve.
You can check out our legs here. I am hopping I don’t have to run the 3.6 mile loop in the dark, because it has a supposedly haunted cabin. And you all know how I am about running in the dark, (didn’t go over so well in Colorado) throw in a haunted cabin enough said. Headlamp, bear spray, and knuckle lights…..check!!
Basically we all run close to 16 miles each, for a total of 120 miles. You just run until you finish the 120 miles…simple 🙂
Marathon on Monday, trail relay on Friday-Saturday. I am thinking I might like this. 😉
If you haven’t done a relay and are thinking about it, you have to do it. So much fun!! It was seriously a life changing experience for me. I learned so much about the meaning of teamwork and myself. With the right team members and the right location, it’s an experience you’ll never forget….I PROMISE!!
Have a great weekend friends!! And check out some great relay options on Ragnar’s site. There just might be one in your area. (Trail Relay’s here)
