I meant to have this post done on Friday, but I enjoyed myself way too much while with family on Thanksgiving. I was busy helping prepare the meal from Wednesday and into Thanksgiving day. Then on Friday I helped my sister decorate her house for Christmas and helped my parents watch her kids so her and her husband could go out for their anniversary.
Marc and I enjoyed the Turkey Trot with baby girl though. It was fun continuing our tradition with a new addition. It wasn’t fun weaving through everyone with a stroller though. I told Marc next year we are taking the stroller to the front of the line. It was great seeing all the families participating. Can’t wait until baby R is able to run along side of us.
I’ll share some photos from our weekend on Wednesday. Marc celebrated a birthday as well over the weekend.
I have been enjoying some smoothies made with matcha green tea powder and thought the recipes were too good not to share. Before baking for Thanksgiving I needed a chocolate mint fix, and made some quick protein bites as well. I guarantee these will be a hit among the family.
Smoothies are one of my favorites for post workout recovery. I have been wanting to try matcha green tea powder in my smoothies. Matcha green tea is high in antioxidants. It’s a powder that has more of an earthy taste in my opinion. It helps to increase your energy levels and helps with endurance. As a mother, as well as avid marathon runner, increased energy and endurance are definitely a benefit I won’t complain about.
Matcha also helps to detoxify the body, builds the immune system and even helps to burn calories. It has also been shown to improve cholesterol levels as well. Why not start your day with a boost of energy and cancer fighting properties?
I tried a combination with avocado first, and love the creamy texture and of course the flavor. 😉 I guarantee you won’t even be able to notice the avocado. It’s full of flavor. The avocado adds the healthy fats.
- 1½ c almond milk
- ½ - ¾ c frozen blueberries
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 avocado, seed removed and peeled
- 2 tsp matcha green tea powder
- 1-2 scoop protein powder (I use pea or hemp)
- handful of spinach
- Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and well combined. Pour into desired glasses and enjoy.
Try this Blueberry Peach Green Tea Refresher too. It’s not a creamy texture because it lacks the avocado, but it’s still just as powerfully good!! 😉 Pictures aren’t pretty, but it sure tastes amazingly good.
Now for my great Chocolate Mint Peanut Butter Dough Bites. I used hemp protein for these, but you can use any type of protein you prefer.
I love them before I run and after. They help to tide me over since I typically have to feed baby R right after I get back from running. These are quick to make, and I am learning to appreciate even more easy to prepare meals and snacks that are still tasty and healthy.
Hope you all had an amazing weekend!!

What are your favorite protein bite combinations? Have you used Matcha Green Tea in your smoothies?

I have been making matcha tea lattes every afternoon– they are such a treat. Yesterday I added some to a batch of gluten free bread that I made– so good! Nice to have another recipe in arsenal. Hope you guys had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Give R a snuggle from me. xo
