It’s hard to believe we are nearly halfway through March already. Marc and I are headed to Bozeman, MT to visit my friend and my brother and his wife, oh and there happens to be a half marathon on Saturday.
I have to be honest and say my family happens to live in Bozeman where the half marathon is 😉 Oh and did I mention 4 finishers are selected for an all expense paid trip to Ireland in the fall to run the Ireland Marathon?! A huge factor for choosing this race.
The weather looks promising, with sunshine, but a little chill. At least there’s no snow (fingers crossed). It’s going to be a long road trip (6 hours), which we’ll be leaving for shortly after a little bit of work and some appointments.
A full report will follow after the weekend adventures end. 😉 Hopefully Marc and I are two of the four selected!!
I have been catching up on some reading on my break from school, and came across a short story on “I am” in one of my books. Do you ever notice how when asked about our life, job, etc from others, we tend to answer with: “I run”, “I have kids”, “I have a husband”, “I work for so and so…” “I bake”, “I blog”, “I write” etc.
The short snit bit brought up a good point. Why don’t we answer with “I am a runner” or “I am a wife” or “I am a mother”, etc. After all these are part of who we are, our identity. I do just more than run, bake, hike, and blog. These verbs are all apart of who I am, they define me. I wouldn’t be the same person if I wasn’t a runner, a hiker, a blogger, a wife. I wouldn’t share the same passions with others. My relationships would look different.
It’s not to say that you are any less of a person if you aren’t a runner, a wife/husband, mother, writer, etc. There are so many passions in life for all of us, and those we recognize as our true passions are apart of us. And for some us, we have yet to find those passions. Everyone’s “I am’s” will be different, but that’s what makes our identities different. This is what makes us unique.
Let’s take pride in what we do, and starting saying “I am” more often. Even if some don’t understand or think I am, I am a blogger and I am writer. I may not be great at it, but I love it and it’s part of who “I am”.
So here’s my “I am’s” : I am friend, I am a wife, I am a runner, I am a blogger, I am a baker, I am a child of God, I am an aunt, I am daughter, I am a hiker, I am a dancer, I am a singer (or at least I like to think I am 😉 ). The list could go on.
I love this new concept of saying “I am” instead of “I [insert verb]”. Let’s be bold and confident and remember who we are, and feel no shame in saying “I am….” especially when it’s part of your identity.
Now for the fun: What “I am’s….” are you? Share in the comments below.
Have a great weekend. I hope it’s just as sunny and bright wherever you’re at!!
Until Next Time Be Whole, Be Fit, and Be You!!

I like the idea of owning what you are. I AM…..!!

Great topic! I am going to work on this. I think I jump to the verb because I don’t have the confidence in saying “I am [whatever}” But I need to own it and then I bet I’ll have more confidence as a result. Sometimes things happen like that, huh?
I am a runner. I am a friend. I am a sister. I am a daughter. I am a hard worker. I am a student. I am a yogi. I am a storyteller. I am a blogger. I am motivated. I am passionate. I am a hopeless romantic. I am a dreamer.
