The Stick: Review and Giveaway

April 1, 2015 Bryanna

You might be wondering what the heck is the stick……a runners best friend in my opinion. I am not talking about a tree branch I picked out of the yard either.

The Stick is a tool used by athletes to help with recovery and performance. It’s purpose is much like a foam roller, except that it is more easily transportable and smaller in size. It’s torture for runners, but the hurts so good type of torture.

You might be thinking you already have everything you need for running, but I guarantee you won’t regret investing in one of these.

I was given the Sprinter Stick to review, as well as one for a giveaway. As a runner, who is also a mom, I have found that the stick is a great tool. I rarely have time for foam rolling anymore and sometimes stretching is hit and miss. With the Stick I can ease sore muscles anywhere.

There are many reasons to love the Stick and to add it to your running amenities/tools.

  • It’s small and slender – The marathon and sprinter stick easily fits inside a gym bag, duffel bag or a large purse, even a diaper bag. So when planning the next marathon that’s across the country, you don’t have to worry about leaving it behind. It easily fits in a carry on. Don’t be fooled by it’s size either (only 19-20 inches long for the marathon and sprinter sticks). Though it be small, it is fierce!! No joke. stick sprint stick
  • You can use it anywhere – Even the car, a restaurant (hey you do what you got to do). I do most of my rolling in the car. I bring it along for before and after races to help loosen the muscles and for post race recovery. It’s lightweight, and again doesn’t take up much space.
  • It’s similar to a deep tissue massage, without the high price tag – You can really go deep with the stick, adding as much or as little pressure as you want. I dig deep when I use it, resembling a deep tissue massage. It’s painful but my calves thank me later.stick review
  • It’s great for the calve muscles – I love being able to work the calves, applying more pressure in the more sore areas of the calves. It contours to the muscles.
  • Different stick for each runner’s need – From the sprinter stick to the marathon stick, a runner can chose the stick that bests suits their style. I like the sprinter stick because it’s shorter and more firm. The marathon stick is more flexible (also shorter). Find more options here.
  • It’s great for recovery – After a tough workout, whether it was from the hill repeats or the strength routine, the Stick helps to ease sore muscles. it improves recovery time and can help prevent injury. I love using it post race.

When I first heard about the Stick I was skeptical, and couldn’t understand why anyone would spend $30-$40 on a stick. It just didn’t look like it would do much of anything. I tried it for the first time during my first ultra Ragnar Relay, and immediately fell in love with it.

I didn’t need a big space for using it, like you would for a foam roller, making it a very important tool for our team. We were all taking turns using the stick. We could use it from the comfort of our van seat, and now I use it from the comfort of anywhere. I am highly considering leaving one in my car. stick review 1

It’s great for getting those areas that are harder to reach with foam rolling, especially the calve muscles. Visit the companies website to find the Stick that best suits you. Typically the longer sticks are for full body use and the shorter sticks for the legs. You can find a stick that’s best for a lighter massage (flexible) or a deeper massage (firm). They also offer free shipping to the 48 contiguous states. It really is “A toothbrush for your muscles.”

I was provided one Marathon Stick for a giveaway. The marathon stick was designed for distance runners. It’s a short stick, but differs from the Sprinter Stick in that it is more flexible, for those preferring a lighter massage. It contours to your muscle and is used on the legs. Use the rafflecopter below to enter. Come back everyday for more entries. One lucky reader will be awarded their next best running gadget.

AWESOME!!!! I love recovery tools. I don’t have a stick yet…I have a different brand but I think the stick would be better. I would probably get the sprinter even though I am totally a distance runner…but I think I would like the firmness better.

I am a distance runner, and go for a firmer stick as well.

I think that I would like the softer flex of the marathon stick.

I’ve seen them at many expos but have never given it a try. I would opt for the more rigid sprinter stick.

I’ve wanted to try one of these! My quads and calves get so tight with all the running I do for marathon training. The foam roller just doesn’t cut it all of the time! I don’t know what I would like better, but I would think the firmness of the sprinter stick would be best.

I haven’t tried this before, the marathon stick that’s more flexible sounds neat. Compared to foam rolling which do you like better?

Personally Ben, it’s a toss up and depends on my day. The stick is great for transporting to races when traveling far or across country. It is also great at getting a deeper massage on some of the muscles in the calves. The foam roller is definitely better for the ITband area. Still love my foam rolling, but love having something I can carry with me.

I would definitely go for the firmer stick! I use a foam roller now and the harder the better when it comes to rubbing out those muscles.

My chiropractor gets on me every time I go in for not using my foam roller as often as I should… Maybe this is the solution!

I’d go with the Marathon Stick. I’ve never tried one, but I’ve been using my foam roller a lot lately. I like the fact that the stick doesn’t take up much space.

I have not tried the stick yet. I like the looks of the Sprinter Stick Fuchsia.

I have only recently started foam rolling. I have thought about getting my own for home use but the stick would definitely be easier to store and keep away from my kids.
