Over the past couple of weeks, my husband and I have been reading short letters to our baby girl from a book. It’s a book my parents gave me when I was a child. I know our baby isn’t born yet, but I still find it important to speak over her every day. I love doing it.
The book is titled “His Little Princess: Treasured Letters from Your King.” Basically it’s letters from our Heavenly Father to our precious baby girl. Marc reads the letter and I read the prayer, that eventually our little girl will read.
One of the letters hit home to me and I thought I should share it, because it’s a subject so many women [and men] struggle with. A truth they don’t believe. The letter is titled “I Made You Beautiful” and reads as follows:
“My Pretty Little Princess,
I want you to know how very beautiful you are to me. I adore you, my daughter! I love the way I created you. When you look into the mirror, remember that I carefully chose the color of your eyes and the highlights in your hair. I love you so much that I know exactly how many hairs are on your pretty little head! I designed the shape of your nose and your happy smile. I made every part of your precious body. Don’t ever try to look like anyone else but you. I think you are perfect just the way you are. I love every little thing about you, my princess. There is no one in the world like you.
Love, Your King who created a perfect you”
There is so much truth in this one letter. Many of us struggle with our self image, and it’s one part of raising a child that scares me. I want my beautiful little girl to always know she is beautiful, and that her father and I find her beautiful, as well as her Heavenly Father and creator. Our words are powerful!!

I have read this letter over and over to my little girl, and I tell her nearly everyday how very special and beautiful she is. I want her to know, even at a young age, that she was created beautiful and there’s no one liker her.
It is my hope that by continuing to speak this over her life, she will believe it herself. She will believe it when those around her are saying otherwise or when images on TV may make it seem she isn’t quite perfect.
We live in a world where our beauty is defined by the color of our hair, the firmness of our abs, our smile, the clothes we wear, the toned butt and legs we should have….all outward appearance. What I hear in this letter, is that we are unique and like no other person. Our Heavenly Father made us perfect in His eyes. He sees beauty when He looks at us, especially when we are inwardly beautiful.
I think it’s important to define beauty, not just by our outward appearance, but by our inward appearance. We hear this all the time, but I don’t fully believe we act on it. We strive for outward beauty, when God is already telling us we are beautiful. He created us, our uniqueness. How boring it would be if we all looked the same.

I need to first start with my own self image, and making sure I don’t have negative words toward myself. This way my daughter doesn’t see beauty defined by only outward appearances. I already know I will find my daughter beautiful, I already do, but sometimes it’s not enough for me to say it. She has to believe it.
This is why I will remind her daily, how her father and I love her and find her beautiful, and how her Heavenly Father created her in His image. She is “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Pslam 139:14). We all are.
Until Next Time Be Whole, Be Fit, and know you are Beautiful!!

Dorinda you are welcome!! I am glad it could help and best wishes at the brunch.
Kristin, negative thoughts are so detrimental to our well being!! I agree it’s easy to get caught up in a negative thought cycle.

Beautiful letter and beautifully written post… It’s something we all need a reminder about. It’s easy to get caught up in a negative though cycle.. comparing yourself to others, to the movie stars, etc… I also want to set a great example for my kid(s) some day. It looks like you are on the right track for making sure your daughter has great body image!

Great post Bry I loved it. I see so many people that struggle with thier self image in my line of business. You have inspired me to find a good verse to post on my station to remind people that our lives are not defined by our outward appearance and that God created each and everyone of us uniquely. I can’t wait to meet that baby girl because how can she not be beautiful on the inside and out with you and Marc as parents.

Thank you Tiah!! She is going to be blessed with great aunts and uncles and cousins. I can only imagine all the individuals you meet on a daily basis who struggle with their self image. What a great job to be in though, as you can influence so many lives and open them to the truth!!
