Smoothies!! Yes, I love smoothies. Maybe it’s a season in my life right now, because I make them nearly everyday. Smoothies have been an easy way for me to get some extra calories and healthy calories, while nursing, especially as my running ramps up.
I am in marathon training and finally ran my way up to 45-50 miles a week. It feels good to have higher mileage again and it will slowly increase to 70+ miles. I enjoy the roads to myself and my alone time. Time to decompress and to have some quietness away from the screaming children and endless chores. I almost feel I am in an alternate universe. Running can do that and I love that about running.
Even in the midst of chaos I can have my running, and of course Jesus. Thankful I have the gift of running and I am able to run most any day I want to. I love the time I have in the morning with Jesus and my thoughts, with little to no interruptions.
Then there’s chocolate. Chocolate can also bring happiness and bliss, at least for me. I love my dark chocolate square that I treat myself too nearly every night after the kids are in bed. A moment I can sit down and savor a little piece of chocolate, it’s like my “you did good today mom, so treat yourself” chocolate.
Not only do I add chocolate protein to my smoothies, but I have now been adding in cocoa powder or carob powder, for an even more chocolatey flavor. Chocolate and berries are always a nice combination. Since we still have some frozen raspberries from the raspberry bush (there’s still 3 gallon size bags left), I wanted to put them to use. Frozen berries are perfect for smoothies.

No berries on hand or no fruit at all, then this smoothie is perfect. It’s a simple smoothie that tastes like a chocolate pie. It’s creamy and smooth, and thick. You could almost enjoy it as a smoothie bowl if you wanted to. It’s like dessert in a glass, but guilt free.
This smoothie is rich and decadent. You feel like you are splurging, but your feeding your body protein, antioxidants and healthy fiber. I bought chocolate hemp protein so I could start making your smoothies. Hemp is good right??
Bry says
Yes Hemp is fine. I suggest a plant based protein that has a variety of plants, so you are getting complete proteins & not isolated protein. I like Orgain, and they have it at Costco or via Vitacost.com for cheaper. It’s a great plant based protein that’s gluten free too
