Now that we are heading into Summer, why not share some of my favorite refreshing juices and smoothies? I will continue to share recipes throughout the summer using some fresh produce too, so don’t you worry. 😉
Instead of loading up on the high calorie juices and soda over the summer, try some refreshing homemade juices, smoothies and flavored iced tea. When I say flavored ice tea, I mean flavored with fresh fruits and even cucumber or mint. Personally, I think it’s better than anything high in sugar such as soda and store juices.
You save on calories when you make your own juices at home and drink flavored water. Every now and then it’s nice to have a cold, refreshing drink, at least it is for me now that I am pregnant. Don’t get me wrong though, iced coffees or frappes are sometimes a treat I enjoy, and every now and again I make my own fruit smoothies to satisfy a sugar craving.
My new favorite drinks are iced matcha green teas. I love the antioxidant profile, the low calorie and caffeine, and the lack of sugar. Now that it’s warmer, iced drinks are my go to, and fruit flavored smoothies with a little matcha green tea powder do a pregnant lady happy.
This Blueberry Peach Green Tea Refresher is one of my favorite smoothies for the summer. You can add in protein powder as well, or can just enjoy with the fruit and green tea alone. It’s a refreshing start to your day or end to your day. I love knowing that I am filling my body with some cancer fighting agents. Pictures aren’t pretty, but it still tastes amazingly good.
I love the earthy taste of matcha green tea, and it pairs well with the blueberries and peaches in this smoothie. Just a couple of ingredients and your day is full of protein and antioxidants, as well as energy.
- 1½ c almond milk
- 2 tsp matcha green tea
- scoop of protein powder (optional)
- 1 c frozen blueberries
- 1 c frozen peaches
- couple handfuls of spinach
- Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy

In addition to a refreshing green tea smoothie, try this Fresh Carrot Orange Juice. Almost all kids love orange juice and now you can sneak in some veggies without them noticing. Carrots are naturally sweet, and are easy to hide in any dish, so carrot orange juice is a nice way to add in some extra nutrients to your diet and your child’s diet without any nasty taste (I don’t think carrots are nasty, but some kids do 😉 ).
It’s always great to start the day with a fresh juice. Trying to juice a few times a week will increase your intake of vital vitamins and minerals and keep your body performing optimally. It’s a great way to get all your daily requirements for fruits and veggies in one go.
Total Time: 5 – 10 minutes
Ingredients:Â
- 8 carrots
- 2 oranges
- 4 celery stalks (optional)
- chunk of ginger root (optional)
Directions:Â Feed all items though the juicer. Enjoy. (I store mine in a mason jar so as to not lose any vital nutrients. It’s best if you drink right away.)
Servings: 2 16 ounce juices
Marc and I are officially out of our apartment!! It’s bittersweet really. We are in a transitional period staying with family, and it’s been nice to have a break from all the packing and moving. I am glad to have a few more days before the chaos begins again. Also, it’s nice having some extra time to devote to cleaning up the diet heading into Summer and having more time to sit down and enjoy meals as a family again. It got a little crazy there for a bit.
Hope the week has been treating you all well!! I’ll check back in in a few days.
Until Next Time Be Whole and Be Fit
