Thought breast milk was only good just for feeding the new little one? Well think again. You can use breast milk for so much more, and it can even be of a benefit to mommy and family. And if you want you can add it to this breakfast recipe too!!
Chocolate Peanut Butter Breakfast Cookies
Just Kidding!! 😉
I have used breast milk for all of the listed purposes below and they work. It’s like the use of Windex in the movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.” Seriously!! I was introduced to it’s great use as a remedy for many post-partum ailments like sore and cracked nipples and for treating newborn issues as well. With my first child I used my extra breast milk like it was going out of style, especially since my supply was endless.
This time around, I am back in the game. So don’t throw away your extra breast milk, because it really is liquid gold. Here’s my favorite ways to use breast milk that don’t involve feeding the baby.
- Baby Acne – Some baby’s get that nagging baby acne after a few weeks. All my sisters kids did and my mom’s kids. R had it for a few days, but I used breast milk again. Just applying some breast milk to the baby acne and on the scalp. I also lent some to my sister for her kids to use as well. Takes the redness away and helps to clear up all the little baby zits.
- Sore / Cracked Nipples – Just squeeze some of your own milk out after nursing and rub around the nipple area, let air dry for a few seconds. The enzymes and antibodies in breast milk help to heal sores. It’s a miracle fix in my opinion. I have never used any nipple creams or nipple guards. I will get sore nipples in the beginning of nursing, but after a few days it’s all cured by just using my own breast milk.
- Diaper Rash or other Infant Rashes – R never really got much for diaper rash because we used cloth diapers, but she did get a rash on her face and a little diaper rash in the beginning while in the NICU. I used my own breast milk on the rash, declining prescription creams and over-the-counter creams instead relying on breast milk. Why not use something that’s safer on the skin and doesn’t contain any chemicals or toxins?!
- Mothers / Fathers Acne or Rashes – I always break out in a rash after having a baby. I think it’s the hormone dumping from breast feeding. It is always on my face. So I thought I would give baby’s breast milk a try when the lactation nurse told me it’s great for healing baby’s skin and mom’s skin. It helps dry out zits as well. Again it’s liquid gold people!! Breast milk can be used to kill tumor making cancer cells, thus is great for inflammations on the skin.
- Ear Infections / Eye Infections – Just add a few drops to the infected ear or eye (like in pink eye) and you’ll see results. It can relieve ear infections, allowing for relief for baby or toddler within hours.
There’s many other uses for breakfast milk, these are just a few ideas I have tried.
I have also learned that some runners buy breast milk to help with their training. I thought this was a little extreme, and no I haven’t tried it. Apparently they spend the money to improve their performance. So looking to make some extra cash and have extra “liquid gold?” Sell the goods……okay just kidding, but hey some women do it!! I swear I haven’t 😉 People in China, mostly the wealthy, drink breast milk, as they believe it improves the health of those that are ill because of it’s nutritional value.
Just some food for thought this morning. I hope it can help you with some ailments that may have been causing you some minor pain / annoyances.
Now for the good stuff!! Enjoy these breakfast cookies any time of day, but don’t be fooled by the name “cookie.” There’s no added sugar, no flour and they are vegan. Perfect for a snack or enjoyed as breakfast. Surely a hit among the kids and a great way to start their morning before school. And you don’t have to be worried about sending the kids to school on a sugar rush.
I love chocolate. I love peanut butter. I love breakfast. I love cookies. So I present to you the chocolate peanut butter breakfast cookies. These are sweetened by the bananas, but if you want you can add chocolate chips. I added a little in half the batch. Â And yes they do look like cow pies!! Mmmmm….good!!
There’s also some protein powder in these, so they pack a punch. I use a vegan based protein powder, that blends together pea, rice, flax and chia seed. These are simple to make, taking less than 10 minutes to prep and 30 minutes in total to bake. I keep them in the fridge and grab before my run or after my workout before hoping in the shower and having a big breakfast.
You may wonder why I call them breakfast cookies, and it’s because of the breakfast like ingredients they contain. Bananas, plant based protein powder, oats, and peanut butter. It’s almost like a baked smoothie or oatmeal in a sense. They are cookies you don’t have to feel guilty about eating, and are enjoyed by kids too.
